Elite Pokémon 100 - Roy Raftery's Top Picks From SGB's Upcoming Auction

SGB’s Pokémon Elite 100 auction marks its one-year anniversary of hosting trading card auctions!

The Elite auction features over 50 complete master sets, ranging from the original Base Set all the way to EX Era, raw and graded Base Set Charizard – arguably the most recognisable and iconic Pokémon card and a selection of old and new sealed products.

What is the star of the Elite Pokémon 100?

The star of the auction will be lot 49, the Skyridge Master set in Mint condition. SGB has sold two Skyridge Master sets since its inaugural 151 auction back in October 2023 and is about to set a record by bringing a third set to the market! Skyridge is the last set produced by Wizards of the Coast before handing the license back to Nintendo and the Pokémon company, as such, they printed far fewer cards than normal. The set also holds the ‘crystal type’ Pokémon, most notably, the crystal Charizard, a card that sells for around £11,000 in a perfect PSA 10. With six ‘crystal types’, all reverse holos and even the lowest value holographic rare commanding over £30, Skyridge will always be the definitive vintage Pokémon set for collectors and investors.

Which lot is your personal favourite?

Lot 60 is the coveted EX Team Rocket Returns Set; this set is just three cards shy of a Master set and is one of the hardest sets from the EX era to complete. The lot features all 11 EX Pokémon – many of which are totally sold out across all of the main American sites such as Troll & Toad and TCG Player. All our EX’s are in mint condition, with the Rocket’s Mewtwo EX, a card that is easily worth over £400 alone in mint condition, was viewed countless times at Collect-a-Con Chicago. EX Team Rocket Returns rarely come to market and is sure to be a major success on October 26th.

What other items from Elite Pokémon 100 should we be looking out for?

Rounding off the auction we have a selection of sealed booster boxes and packs. Paldea Evolved has quickly become one of the most collectable sets in the Scarlet & Violet era, the full art/illustration Magicarp by legendary artist Shinji Kanda is a big factor in this with PSA 10 copies selling for around £500!

Silver Tempest, one of the last sets in the Sword and Shield era has already achieved over £200 a box on the secondary market and the set isn't even two years old! The main star of the set is the Full Art secret Lugia V, a card that's quickly become a modern-day holy grail.
